EACH NEW YEAR comes with a new set of goals, dreams, plans and a hopeful perspective. For as long as I can remember, New Year's Day has been my favorite holiday. So much so, I don't usually celebrate New Year's Eve because I want to wake up refreshed and ready for a new year.

This year was no different, except it was the beginning of my 40th trip around the sun. As with all milestones, especially this one, they offer a time for reflection and perspective. I woke up ready to take on the world and hopefully make a difference.

As a veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, I wanted to combine my appreciation for flowers, dogs and my fellow veterans in a 2019 calendar that would benefit Custom Canines Service Dog Academy. This Madison-based non-profit trains and connects service dogs with veterans and first-responders, as well as adults and children with disabilities.

I did not do this alone. The talent of these local Madison photographers are really what make this project so special. They donated their talents, time, energy and resources to make this dream a reality. I hope you find their work as inspiring and artistic as I do.

I sincerely hope that the images on this calendar bring a smile to your face knowing that your purchase will help match a very special canine hero to a human hero in need.
